What We Do

Our Mission: Charity League, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the lives of Charlotte-area children by promoting academic achievement, prosocial behavior, and self-worth through volunteerism.

For over 100 years, Charity League of Charlotte has maintained a rich history serving children in underserved communities. Working closely with the Title I Department within the Charlotte Mecklenburg County school system, Charity League has identified and partnered with four Title I schools (Albemarle Road Elementary, Devonshire Elementary, Hidden Valley Elementary, and Sterling Elementary). At least 98% of the children attending these schools are living at or below the poverty level. Charity League created CLC Hubs in each of our partner schools to provide critical care items such as, hygiene supplies, clothing, shoes and uniforms for students. Each school is supported by a team of Charity League members who stock and organize the Hubs.

It is important to Charity League that we build relationships with our partner schools, so they can consistently rely on us to provide support, not only with CLC Hubs, but also through teacher and academic support. Charity League has provided funding for each student to receive a book at their annual school book fair, and we have enhanced classroom libraries with a collection of high interest books that appeal to their student population.  Charity League also provides teachers and staff with a few surprise treats throughout the year, so they know they are appreciated. Maintaining low teacher turnover in Title I schools provides stability and consistency for the students.

Charity League has also supported the Greater Enrichment Program (GEP) for more than a decade. GEP provides after-school care to students at three of our CMS elementary partner schools. We provide STEM and STEAM materials, technology equipment, toys, puzzles and manipulatives for use in their after-school program.
